I had a few ideas for decorating this Halloween. I knew I had these items in my garage...
Which got me thinking....what can I do with 3 pumpkins and vase? I know...make a pumpkin topiary!
First step, was to spray paint. Good bye orange...hello heirloom white! And that orange vase was magically turned into a beautiful bronze.
I then went to Joann's and snagged some accessories.
Don't worry....those super neon green braided pig tails will not be included. And yes, they will be harmed in the making of this topiary. :)
First, I trimmed each mask a little, just to give them some individual style.
I thought the masks needed some bling, a little sparkle, if you will. So it was time to bring out the disguised duck to help me. Along with some black glitter and spray adhesive.
Don't under estimate your kids Zoo Pal plates, they can help with more than just snack time! :)
After I "glitterfied" my masks I decided a little feather action would be cute too...enter the gopher!
It's nice to have friends when you need them! I used my glue gun to attach some feathers to a side of each mask. I then was going to give a couple of the pumpkins mustaches, but I decided to cut those up and use them for the mouths. I think that was a good decision because the furry texture gives the mouths some depth.
After adding eyes, I attached the pumpkins with some bamboo skewers and used my Dollar Store spanish moss to layer between each. And this is the finished project....
I think it turned out great! To me, it's selling point is the facial expressions...the bottom pumpkin is not to happy being on the bottom...(of course!)...
The middle pumpkin is just happy to not be on the bottom and the top pumpkin is trying her best to balance and not fall off! :)
I like how the topiary looks in front of my Potterybarn Eagan mirror. If you notice at the top of the mirror, I added a few spider webs and a some 8-legged friends! I found those at Micheal's for 50% off! Too cool!
I have to say though, the best part about this whole creative Halloween project was what my son told me, "Mom, I just love your pumpkins. Can I take them to school?" :)
