DIY: Paper Star Tutorial

I wanted something big and fun for

my 4th of July Vignette this year.

I think these paper stars are exactly what I had in mind.

They're big, fun and simple, so simple. 

Here's all you need to know to make your

own festive paper stars.

First, gather your supplies:

   

• 12-inch square sheet scrapbook paper (2 for each star)
• scissors
• thumb tacks
• tape measure
• glue stick
• super glue
• string

  

Step 1: Place the paper pattern side down. Then fold it half across one diagonal, then the other. Open flat.

Step 2: Flip the paper over (design side up) and fold the paper in half in one direction, then the other.  Open flat again.

Step 3:  Along the half folds you made in step 2, use your tape measure to mark 2½ inches. Then make the cut (almost half way to the center of the paper).

Step 4: For each point, fold in the sides to the diagonal fold line as I did above in 4-A.

Picture 4-B shows you both sides folded in. Complete this step with three remaining points.

 

Step 5: Apply the glue stick on one of the triangular flaps and press the matching flap on top so that it lines up with the bottom. Do this for each point. 

When all points are glued together, it will look like picture 5-A. 

Now, half of your star is complete. To make the other half, repeat all the above steps. Before you start to glue your last point closed, place your sting inside the corner. You can use super glue or tape to secure it.

Then place your two stars together and see where they touch. In these places I dabbed some super glue to connect the two stars. Let the glue dry before hanging. I used thumb tacks to hang mine. 

That's it!

These stars can be used for more than just the 4th of July.
Birthday parties, Christmas, 
any time you want a fun decoration.
Just change the scrapbook paper to match the theme!

That means my 3 stars were less than a buck. :)
