Laughin' Through The Pain

I started a diet last Sunday and we all know diets are no fun.

Today, I feel cranky like this:

And I feel like this...

I am so tired of eating this...

Credit

When all my mind can think about is this...Chocolate Wasted cake!

Credit

Now I ask you, would I ever crave this cake if I weren't on a diet?
NO!!!! But now I dream about this baby.

That cake will just have to wait. Instead I am suppose to drink this much water...

and the cravings will go away. Yea, right!

So, what's this girl to do?

I'll keep watching the scale and dry not to do this...

And I will remind myself that I have been off of this...

for two months now! (insert little pat on the back)

I will try and stop torturing myself by looking at this...

 And this...

 And this...

Ok. ok...I said I was going to stop.

I will be strong. I can do this.

I think I better go grab my apple. It will taste just like the cake, right? Ugh...

Slow Cooker Sunday: Skinny Italian Turkey Meatballs

I know I had a different recipe scheduled this week on my M.A.D. menu. But when I stumbled upon this recipe I knew if I made it, both my husband and son would be on cloud 9.

I found this recipe at Skinnytaste.com. I have tried a few recipes from Gina's site and haven't been disappointed yet. I hope the boys like this one and you too!

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 4-6 hours (low)
Serves: 6

-20 oz. (1.3lb) ground turkey breast 93% lean
-1/4 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
-1/4 cup Reggiano Parmigiano cheese, grated
-1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped
-1 egg
-1 large garlic clove, crushed
-salt and pepper

For the sauce:
-1 tsp olive oil
-4 garlic cloves, smashed
-28 oz can crushed tomatoes
-1 bay leaf
-salt and pepper to taste
-1/4 cup fresh chopped basil or parsley

1) In a large bowl combine the turkey, breadcrumbs, cheese, parsley, egg, garlic, salt and pepper. Using clean hands, mix all the ingredients and form small meatballs about 1/8th cup each.

2) In a small saute pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and saute until golden, being careful not to burn.

3) Pour crushed tomatoes into the slow cooker with bay leaf. Add garlic and oil.

4) Drop meatballs into the sauce, cover and set slow cooker to low, for 4-6 hours. When meatballs are ready, adjust salt and pepper to taste, and add fresh basil or parley. I added a little cheese on top for fun!

Serve over pasta with french bread and enjoy!

Six On Saturday: New Uses For Mayonnaise

It's more than just a great spread on a sandwich.

I have found some wonderful new uses for that mayo...

1) Remove crayon marks. Did your kid make a masterpiece on the wood floors? Run some mayonnaise on the crayon marks and let it soak. Then wipe away the marks with a damp cloth.

2) A hair conditioner. Use mayo to get a deep condition at home. Starting at the scalp, coat strands with 1/2 cup mayonnaise and leave on for 15 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly.

3) Strengthen your fingernails. Apply mayonnaise to each finger nail for 5 minutes then wash off with warm water. This will help reduce your nails from chipping and breaking. It will also reduce the number of hang nails you get too!

4) Remove bumper stickers with ease. Do you still have that political sticker on your car from the 80's? Apply a layer of mayonnaise to the sticker and wait a few minutes. The mayonnaise should soften the paper and dissolve the glue. Then wipe clean.

5) Make your plant leaves shine. Are you plants looking dull? Apply a little bit of mayonnaise and rub each leave using a paper towel to get that sleek shine that professional florist get with their plants.

6) Clean piano keys. If the keys on your piano are starting to yellow, just wipe the ivories with a bit of mayonnaise applied with a soft cloth. Wait a few minutes, wipe with a damp cloth and buff. Your piano keys should now look like new!

What I Wore...Yikes! All Gray and Black?

Last Friday night my hubby and I went on a date to a dinner theater.
It was a nice reason to get a little dressed up.

This is what I wore...

Black Blouse {The Loft}, Grey Sweater {Banana Republic},
Jeans {Lucky Brand}, Yellow Flats {J. Crew} Jewelry {The Loft}

This was my 'running around town errands day' outfit...(with a serious pose, kinda)

White blouse {The Loft}, Grey/Black Sweater {The Gap},
Jeans {The Gap}, Boots {Mukluks}

I just now realized that both outfits are mainly black and gray.
Note to self: no black and gray this week!

See...this is why it's good to take pictures. I probably would have never
realized that I am stuck in a colorless world. :)

My Master Bedroom Closet Progress ~ DIY Pull-out Hamper

You may remember a few months back I started remodeling my closet. Okay...so it has actually been 10 months ago. *insert embarrassed face* I wanted to share how to organize your closet in my 21 day organizational series, but how could I? One day of organizing was not going to solve this problem!

Every day that I would step into that closet I was reminded that I had an unfinished project. I have a long list of other projects that I really want to start. So this month I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't start any other projects until I finished the closet.

I have been working hard to finish even with all the obstacles of life. What can I say? I love a good challenge!

Before I show you my progress, I wanted to remind you of where I had left this project sit for 10 months. Warning...there are tons of pictures in this post.

Closet before I touched it...

Lots of wire shelving...not my favorite.

Oh, and a very big mess!

I ripped out all the wire shelving, painted the walls and built my own wood shelves...

I thought lots of open shelves would be neat...but
instead I discovered the perfect place to store shoes.
I will show you that in a second.

This bottom open space was callin' out for a
pull-out hamper. So I have answered the call!

It actually was pretty easy to build...I started with some drawer slides and built a box...

I then added a frame to support the door that I made...

And after I added the door along with a pretty black handle, this is how it turned out...

I found the perfect sized hamper at my favorite store, Target. You can see that my husband is already putting it to good use...

I also decided to build some shoe dividers for the two twin towers...

The real beauty of those dividers is that they are an insert unit. I took a long piece of wood, added shelves on both sides. Then I just slid the whole unit into the existing cabinet. That way if I change my mind in oh...another 10 months I can just pull them out. Smart, huh? :)

I have plans for the space below the shoe dividers. I hope to make some drawers in the next few months...three on each side.

I wanted to show you what I did with the other side of the closet. It has looked like this for a long time...too long.

Now this space has been remodeled with storage for my sweaters, boots and space to hang more clothes.

I can't get back far enough to get a picture of the whole wall, so here's the bottom part...

Another new addition to my closet were these beauties...

Yep...velvet hangers are so sweet. Tanks don't slide off and they are so soft. I purchased two boxes of the shirt hangers and a box of heavy duty pant hangers...

I also added molding to all the tops of the towers and the middle shelves. I like how it gave the whole closet a nice professional looking finish.

When I was at Target getting my hamper, I saw this rug. I thought it would be perfect but I wish it was bigger. I can't decide if I should keep it or take it back. What do you think? Is it too small for the space?

I wish I could say the master closet is done. But I can say it is almost done. All I need to do is finish the drawers and add a few more accessories and I can scratch this project off the to-do list! :)
