Young Man, Where is God?

Two boys, ages eight and ten, were known around town for the mischievousness. They were always getting into trouble. Their parents could be assured that if any mischief occurred in the their town, their two sons were some way involved. The parents were at their wits end over the boys public behavior.

The mother had heard of a clergyman in town who had been successful in working with troubled youth. She asked her husband what he though about sending the boys to meet with him. He agreed, realizing that something had to be done and that they needed a power higher than their own.

The pastor agreed to meet with the boys but asked to see them individually. The eight-year-old went first. The pastor asked the boy sternly, “Young man, where is God?” The boy made no response, so the pastor repeated the question with more fervency. “Young man, where is God?” Still no answer. So the pastor raised his voice and shook his finger at the boy. “Young man, where is God?”

The boy bolted from the pastor’s study and ran directly home, slamming himself in the closet. His older brother followed him in and asked,”What happened? What’d he do to you?”

“We’re in big trouble this time,” the younger brother said, “God is missing and they think we had something to do with it.”
